Project Flora is the addition and renovation of a single family detached home in the core of Ottawa. With smaller lots in Centretown, it meant keeping the size of the addition to a compact footprint. This smaller-scale addition still has a huge impact on the overall home. Maximizing space by creating multi-use rooms, this addition puts function at the forefront of design by creating spaces that serve the whole family.

The kitchen, which fills the main floor of the addition, doubles as a mud room off the back deck by using a change in flooring to delineate the spaces while still having cohesion though cabinetry and finishes. This mostly white kitchen retains its warmth and character through cherry wood accents, patterned and textured tiles, warm brass fixtures and the family collection of plants and curiosities. Adding to the character and fun of the overall home, the powder room was a moment to play by adding a boldly patterned wallpaper, geometric lantern-style light and the same warm brass fixtures as seen in the kitchen.

Project Flora is the perfect example of making alterations to an existing structure that not only gives you a dramatic change but also a functional home.
